A sunset ride to the backwaters of Kerala could evoke the following thoughts. Kerala is called ” the Gods own country” for a reason. The greenery, water, nature – Will it be enough ever? The sunset made me think how much we relate with the sun. And thus this sunsey poem was born.
SUN IS A SHE! – A sunset poem
______________
Scorch as much as you want
Oh! Sparkling sunshine
For your heat is loathed
Till tears that you shed,
Hiding behind the clouds
Unrelentingly unabashedly
Flood their feet off!
Hide as much as you want,
Oh! Beautiful Sunset
For your day never ends
Till your breath remains
Floating behind the waters
Lighting up your abode
Emerge from the tags
Oh! Dear woman
A mother, sister, wife, friend
She is being the superhuman
Hiding behind the tags,
There is a soul so powerful
Which when shines bright
Blinds them with the radiance
And hence the benevolent tags
Woman is like sun!
A woman is like a Sun. For those who view her from afar, she would be the brightest star, spreading light everywhere, being so powerful, being respected all over social media(surya namaskar) but for those right under her nose! For them, she would be scorching.
The tears that she shed hiding behind the clouds are normalised as the rain is romanticised. “Women are bound to cry for men don’t cry.”
Isn’t that the norm?
We love to watch the sunset. Poetically speaking, the sun merged with the water in the eternal horizon. Little do they perceive that the sun is scorching in another corner when they are under the twilight. To all women out there. Know your worth.
Don’t try to be the superwoman who is respected because she “sacrifices” everything for others. It is a hidden agenda to tie her with expectations. Be the spokeswoman who is capable of loving herself, standing up for her pride and challenging the world with her mettle.
