The acetic acid present in apple cider vinegar helps in increasing the metabolism thus enabling weightloss. In addition the detox properties of ACV aid in maintaining better health.

    10. Chia seeds cinnamon water

This is my latest obsession. Put a stick of cinnamon in boiling water. Turn off the heat and put some chia seeds. Squeeze a lemon over it and drink it before going to bed or as a wake-up drink. This is a magical concoction. You can also soak chia seeds in plain water overnight and drink it in the morning. This is particularly helpful if you are following an intermittent fasting routine,

  • What Are The Benefits Of Aloe vera Gel For Skin?

A lot has been written about how I prefer using natural ingredients and herbal products and hence much need not be said about whi I prefer Aloe vera gel. For skin, health and hair, this has been my first choice. So, what are the benefits of aloevera gel for skin? Let’s have a look.

Benefits of aloe vera gel for skin

Benefits of aloevera gel for skin

I have been using Aloe vera gel for skincare, haircare and therapeutic properties for a while. Stating the same for my readers to get benefitted from.

    Moisturiser

This is one of the commonly known benefits of aloe vera gel for skin. You can either take fresh aloe vera leaf from the plant or use pure aloevera gel available in the market. Apply aloe vera gel on your face right after waking up. Let it dry and wash off after half an hour. Continue this practice for a month and see the difference. I have tried it an had such smooth and soft skin. You can apply the gel on your kids as well.

    Burn heal

This was a new revelation for me initially but once I started using it, I realised that it is indeed a magic skin medicine. It helps in healing mild burn as well as sun burn. Apply a thin layer on the affected area. Make sure that aloe vera gel that you use is pure and device of chemicals.

    Rashes

Aloe vera is quite helpful in alleviating the irritation due to the rashes. The rashes due to alergy in adults and diaper rashes and other irritations in babies can also be cure with the regular use of pure aloe vera gel.

    Eczema, psoriasis and dermatitis

Eczema, psoriasis and dermatitis are different types of skin ailments which are characterised by dry skin conditions. The irritation and rashes due to these conditions can be alleviated with the regular use of aloevera gel. This is one of the therapeutic benefits of aloevera gel for skin

    Inflammatory acne

The acne that are painful and inflammatory can be cure with aloevera gel as it is an astringent and closes the open pores there by preventing them from being clogged with impurities and sebum, thereby curing the condition.

    Identifying pure aloevera gel

While the benefits of aloevera gel for skin are many, the effectiveness largely depends on the purity of the product. Store brought products are often misleading with their false claims. I used to take the gel directly from the plant. But everytime it was not feasible. That’s when I came across Deyga Organics. I started using their aloevera gel and can say with conviction that their product is pure. I compared it with the original gel that I took from my garden to substantiate my findings. Now that we know what are the benefits of aloe vera gel for skin, let us have a look ate how to identify pure aloe vera gel.

    Color and fragrance

The first point to take care of is the color and texture of the product. Contrary to the general belief, aloevera gel is not green in color. Nor does it have a sweet fragrance. Always keep in mind that the products that claim to be original are not always so. H

Benefits of pure aloevera gel for skin

Pure aloe vera gel is not 100% transparent. If you can see the product by Deyga in the image above, it is not 100% transparent. It has a thick consistency. For an easier comparison I have added a drop of the gel that I have taken and also from Deyga Organics aloe vera gel packet.

Can you distinguish between the gel that I took from the plant and Deyga Gel?

Benefits of pure aloevera gel for skin - comparison
Comparison with the original aloe vera gel

    See the label

If a product has stated only aloe vera gel in the ingredients, it is a farce. A stabilising agent is needed to pack it for a long term. Even if you take the gen from the plant, it wont last for more than two or three days. Deyga is quite transparent about the ingredients. They have also instructed the users to refridgerate after use.

    Deyga aloe vera gel ingredients

Now that you know what are the benefits of aloevera gel for skin, what are you waiting for? Grab your products as soon as possible.

  • Nutritious Foods With Long Shelf Life To Store During Home Quarantine

We are facing lockdown every other day. With unexpected restrictions, it is tough to get hold of food items during emergency situations. It is advisable to store less perishable food items so that you could use them for a long while. Hence we are sharing the list of nutritious foods with a long shelf life to store during home quarantine as well as a few delicious, easy, and healthy recipes.

    Food to store during quarantine:

A self-imposed home quarantine mostly gives you limited options for storing food as we need to have foods that have a longer shelf life. We should religiously include seasonal vegetables and fruits in our diet.

According to the statistics by WHO, consuming 400g of fruits and vegetables is imperative.

While we vouch for all fruits and vegetables, certain specific nutritious foods with long shelf life should be particularly included in our diet or stored. We recommend these foods taking into account the ease of storage, availability, and shelf life along with nutritional value and immunity-boosting power.

    Citrus fruits

Nutritious foods with long shelf life

The awareness about the importance of Vitamin C in our diet is remarkably high in the current scenario. Citrus fruits as we all know are the richest source of Vitamin C. Orange, lemon, grapefruit, clementines etc must be regular in our diet plan.

    Root Vegetables

Nutritious foods with long shelf life - Carrots

Vegetables like potatoes, carrots, turnips, etc are the best source of sodium, potassium, Vitamin C, dietary fibers, etc. They are nutritious foods with long shelf life, which makes them the best food for pandemic times as they can be stored for a long while. Starchy roots like potatoes, sweet potatoes, etc can be steamed or boiled, preferably with their skin on for more dietary intake.

    Cruciferous vegetables

Nutritious foods with long shelf life - Cabbage

Cruciferous vegetables cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, and other green leafy vegetables. They are sources of Vitamin A, C, K, minerals like folate, and also phytonutrients which have anti-inflammatory properties.

    Frozen Fruits and vegetables

Frozen fruits and vegetables are the best nutrient source when you are under home quarantine or lockdown. These are inexpensive, you can store them for a longer period, and also has high dietary content.

In comparison to fresh and frozen vegetables, canned vegetables are less preferred. But when you have to save them for a longer period they become the best choice. Vegetables like mushrooms, tomatoes, spinach, green peas, etc are available in canned form.

    Dry fruits and nuts

Nutritious foods with long shelf life - Dry fruits and nuts

The first point to check while opting for dry fruits and nuts is that they must be unsalted and sugarless. They are rich sources of unsaturated fats. Loaded with Vitamin E, B6, Omega3 fatty acids, and many more nutrients. They can be your snack to munch on, instead of packed and processed food.

    Pulses

Chickpeas, lentils, beans, etc are rich sources of protein, minerals, and vitamins. They can be stored without being perished and hence storing them in your pantry can be the best step of precaution you can take. You can easily prepare a spicy sprouts sandwich for a healthy and tasty meal especially after morning routine work out.

    Whole grains

Nutritious foods with long shelf life - Grains

Rice, wheat, quinoa, etc are the best source of nutrients. The main advantage is that you can store them for a longer period and are easy to cook.

Whole grain bread is an easily available source of grains and it can be frozen in slices.

    Milk and eggs

Food to store during home quarantine

They are inexpensive protein sources. Milk products like unsweetened yogurt, curd, etc can also be a good source of nutrients. Relatively lower shelf life makes it less preferable for storing. For longer shelf life, you can use milk powders.

    Indian Spices and herbs

Food to store during home quarantine 02

Yes! Spices have been counted as unhealthy over the years but if late the awareness has started to build around the goodness of spices. Turmeric, cloves, black pepper, cumin seeds along with ginger and garlic amalgamates the goodness of healthy food with taste and also adds to the immunity.

Meal Ideas – Food to eat during pandemic:

Now that you know what to store for a long period, let us see a few easy recipes that you can rely on, while on home quarantine. Quite often moms who are COVID +ve end cooking food for the rest of the family. With extreme pain and with an uncomfortable body and mind, we cannot assort to a detailed cooking spree. Hence, TCT shares some easy-to-cook recipes with non-perishable food items. These are the food items that can be cooked in bulk and stored as well. Thus you can have a go-to food, that you can cook instantly while quarantined.

    Dal varieties

Pressure cook the dal (chickpeas, green gram, green gram beans, Bengal gram, etc)  in bulk and keep it in the freezer. Crush ginger, garlic, onion, and tomatoes together, saute the mixture in oil, add chili powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder, and gram masala. Saute it dry and refrigerate. This is your go-to dal mix.

While cooking thaw the pulse. Take a portion of the sauteed mix, add water and boil it, add the thawed pulses.

Whole grain pasta with easy sauce

Mix, whole wheat flour, milk, and a tiny pinch of salt. Boil it in simmer mode till it tightens into a porridge, turn it off. Add cheese and boiled whole grain pasta. This can be converted into red sauce pasta by using tomato puree, ketchup, and a pinch of salt with red chili powder if needed. You can boil pasta and keep it in the freezer. Thaw it before use.

    Lemon Rice and Curd Rice

Temper mustard seeds in oil, add red chilly, curry leaves, urad dal, chana dal(optional), ginger (chopped). Further, add curd/lemon for curd rice and lemon rice respectively. Add boiled rice and saute. Do you know that curd rice and lemon rice were packed by our grandmothers for their long trips in an era where hotels and restaurants were not available at every nook and corner? They stay fresh for 2-3 days even without refrigeration.

    Pizza

    Yes! Pizza is one of the easy go-to nutritious foods with long shelf life that you can cook during a pandemic. Here is how;

Base: Mix a teaspoon of yeast and sugar with half a cup of water. Once it is frothy add 2 ½ cup flour, a little salt, and 1 ½ tablespoon oil and make the dough. Keep it at room temperature for 5-6 hours. Divide it into balls, spread it in the shape of a pizza base, and keep it in a freezer.

Sauce: Add pureed tomato to saute ginger garlic, cover it and cook properly. Once it is thick, add Italian herbs. After cooling, transfer it to a jar and refrigerate. You might have already stored the vegetable with a longer shelf life as well as the canned veggies.

On the day you decide to bake the pizza, thaw the base and sauce, layer them and add veggies and mozzarella cheese. Isn’t that simple? Use whole wheat flour instead of refined flour and use less yeast and keep it rising for a longer time. you have your easy, healthy, go-to pizza.

    Smoothies, buttermilk and lassi

Richa strongly suggests keeping the body hydrated. “Drink enough water, vegetable juice, coconut water, and barley water.”

Put the seasonal, long-lasting fruit that you have stored in a blender. Add milk and honey. Blend it well to get a thick paste. If you are using citrus fruit, skip the milk part and add black salt and a pinch of cumin powder. Another option is beating curd with honey/a little sugar to make a sweet lass

    Red meat

Who recommends the use of less than 30% of the total energy intake of which only less than 10% should be saturated. Hence avoid red meat which is rich in unsaturated fat. If you are using red meat, trim excess fat. This applies to poultry as well. Try to use skinless poultry.

  • Busting The Myths About Vaginal Yeast Infection Symptoms Causes And Treatment

Female intimate hygiene is a topic that has been discussed behind the doors. Women often find it difficult to discuss it due to the fear of judgment. The issues related to intimate areas are numerous but the most common amongst these is a vaginal yeast infection. Being conditioned to believe that vaginal infection is related to a lack of intimate hygiene, the reluctance to discuss this topic subdues the help at the right time. There are numerous myths related to vaginal yeast infection symptoms, causes, and treatment. Today we shall discuss the most common myths related to vaginal yeast infection.

    Myths about vaginal yeast infection

Vaginal yeast infection symptoms - Busting myths

Myth #1 Intimate washes prevent vaginal infection

It is widely believed that intimate washes prevent vaginal yeast infection. The reality is that they kill the good bacteria around your vulva and change the natural pH which makes you more susceptible to vaginal infection.

Some experts even suggest using plain water to clean the vaginal areas. But if you are left with an unclean feeling, use only mild soaps.

Myth #2 Intimate infection is caused by lack of hygiene

Mostly yeast infection is proliferated in the bodies which sweat more. Moreover, if your vaginal area tends to hold more moisture, proliferation chances are more. In short, if your body is susceptible to infection, anything can be the reason.

Myth #3 External vaginal itch creams cure vaginal infections

It is a belief that vaginal itch creams are the medicine to cure the vaginal infection. The reality is that itch creams treat the vaginal yeast infection symptoms, and relieve you of the itchiness. In order to cure the infection, taking proper medicine is imperative.

Myth #4 Vaginal yeast infection spreads through sexual intercourse

The most important information about yeast infection that you must keep in mind is that it is not infectious. It doesn’t spread through intercourse. Often doctors suggest you refrain from intercourse because it could be painful for you.

Myth #5 Swimming cause vaginal yeast infection

If you have vaginal yeast infection symptoms, you need not refrain from swimming. Swimming doesn’t cause or spread this. As mentioned earlier, it is not an infectious disease. But you must make sure to dry the vaginal area properly to avoid retaining moisture.

    Tips to avoid vaginal infection:

Iron your panties: If you feel that your vulva is always wet, you are susceptible to yeast infection. Hence iron your panties to avoid any amount of moisture around the vulva.

Dry your vulva after urination: Keep your vulva clean and dry after you pass urine.

Continue using the cream: Even if you are cured of vaginal infection, keep using the vaginal cream/gel because it prevents a relapse.

Get rid of the intimate wash: You no longer need the intimate wash to clean your intimate area. Use mild soap/water

Consult a dermatologist: Consulting a dermatologist is very important. This infection, if left untreated could cause further complications and even cancer.

Keep a toilet sanitizer handy: Most vaginal infections are spread through unhygienic public toilets. Hence always keep a toilet sanitizer handy or use Indian toilets as much as possible.

If you think that you have a vaginal yeast infection, don’t be shy to speak up. Take help and be assured of your health.

  • What is the real awareness of breastfeeding that we should have?

Breast feeding awareness week is going on. Everyone is talking about the importance of breastfeeding and also breastfeeding in public. It is commendable that contrary to the past aversion in many women regarding breastfeeding connected to their own body and health, people are indeed showing interest in the topic. So what is the awareness that we need to spread

    Exclusive breastfeeding

    1. For the first 6 months, the child should be fed exclusively on breastmilk.

    2. The more you breastfeed, the more you lose weight

    3. The more you breastfeed the more immune your child becomes.

    4. You shouldn’t be ashamed of feeding in public.

Well n good. All these points are the best advice to be given to a mother.

But what if a mother is not in a position to exclusively breastfeed the child?

The pressure of the society, the judgements, the frustration of feeling inadequate and what not.

While it is true that breastmilk is the best medicine for the child, we should not judge a mother who is not exclusively breastfeeding her child

She wouldn’t be lactating much to quench the child’s thirst and hunger. The child’s sucking reflex would be week. The child could be in an NICU. The child could have breastmilk intolerance. She might have to have take medications which could be dangerous to child. She could be a working mother who had to rejoin early for work. Worst of all, the mother and child could be having some serious disease which could make breastfeeding all the more dangerous for both.

There could be many genuine reasons for not exclusively breastfeeding the child or weaning early.

Why would the society decide what she should do with her child? Why is it imperative to tab her as a beauty conscious, figure conscious bimbo just because she is not exclusively breast feeding the child/weans early? For some people it is a cruel ecstasy to state how long did they breast feed their child, to a mother who weaned early.

WHAT SHOULD THE MOTHER ACTUALLY DO?

If you are a healthy woman, with ample breastmilk, with a healthy baby whose sucking reflexes are well developed, and also a stay at home mother breastfeed your child exclusively for 6 months.

If you are not any or all of these. Do what’s best for your child and yourself because only a healthy mother can bring up a healthy baby.

    DON’T FEEL GULTY.

DON’T LEND YOUR EARS TO JUDGEMENTAL PEOPLE.

DON’T THINK OF YOURSELF AS ANY LESS THAN OTHER MOTHERS.

    Breastfeeding in public

If you feel ashamed of breastfeeding in public, there is nothing wrong with you. That’s also your personal choice but yeah, there are indeed options for the same.

We have feeding bibs available these days. If that’s expensive for you, get a ‘PONCHO TOP’. It’s available cheap in the market. Put if over your head and feed your child.

  • Microblading- The rage in female beauty

Eyebrows are important in female beauty. Well done eyebrows make a woman look prettier. But many women are troubled with thin eyebrows and have to rely on expensive brow pencils on a daily basis. Needless to say the time invested for the same.

    Microblading

Microblading is also called eyebrow tattoo. But it is not exactly a tattoo. Tattoos are done with a machine with a thick needle. The ink darkens with time for normal tattoo. But for eyebrow tattoo each strand is made using hand. The tool is a fine needle used to make thin slices in the skin which looks like hair strands.

You are frowing, aren’t you? Unlike normal tattoo, microblading is done after applying a local anesthetic cream. Hence there won’t be any pain. You won’t be even able to see the blood. By the time it is done your face looks different.

    Color intensity and thickness

The thickness and shape of the eyebrows is up to the client. When I underwent microblading, I just wanted to fill the sparse area. If you need thicker and darker eyebrows, you can opt for the same as well.

The color intensity will be tad bit more on the day we undergo micro blading. Further it will lighten and after a fortnight, your eyebrows look natural. After 15 days we can retouch the sparse areas, if any and we are done.

    Aftercare

You need to keep your eyebrows hydrated for 15 days after the process, using vaseline. If it gets dry, the durability will be affected in the long run.

    Durability

The microblading artists give us a guarantee of one year for the color to last. But it has been two years for me and the color hasn’t even faded a bit.

So, what are you waiting for? Rush to the nearest microblading artist and get your eyebrows done. I had visited NS STYLE SALON. Where are you going by the way?

  • Nature Sure Jonk Shampoo – Review

If I have to be frank, I mush say that I am hearing about Jonk Shampoo for the first time. A shampoo made from leech is something unique and unheard of.

    Company Claim

The claim of the comoany is that the shampoo removes dandruff, restores shine and prevents hair fall. The ingredients are amla, aloe vera, shikakai, neem etc which are indeed helpful for nourishing the hair. It is paraben and sulphate free.

    Packaging

The bottle with the pump makes it easy to use. Only very little quantity is pumped out. The bottle is travel friendly as well.

    Texture and fragrance

The shampoo has thick consistency. It lathers well despite sulphate free.

    Effect

The product indeed adds shine to the hair. I did not use any conditioner. Nonetheless the shine was retained and the hair didn’t look dry or frizzy. It is commendable that the shine is retained even without conditioner or serum. I continously used it without any additional products but my hair has looking pretty maintained even with the third day hair.

Hairfall was also reduced considerably. Dandruff was also reduced but did not get cured completely. If used continously on a thrice a week basis, dandruff could be kept in check.

Hair Shine 100/100, Hairfall control 100/100 Dandruff control 80/100

Overall I am satisfied with the product. I am in fact surprised with how the shine was retained.

  • EVERTEEN TOILET SANITIZER- TRAVEL BUDDY OF EVERY WOMAN

Does the sight of a toilet seat repulse you? What about sitting on a public toilet where god knows how many have sat? This is every woman’s touble ever. Long gone are the days when we stuff the seats with tissue or go in search of Indian Toilets. During the COVID-19 sanitizer is a household name. Toiler seat sanitizer will also be one soon.

Everteen Instant Toilet Seat Sanitizer Spray

My association with everteen started with their Menstrual Cup. Since then this brand has been my ultimate name for female intimate hygeine. Hence, when I was looking for a toilet seat sanitizer, I didn’t have to think twice.

    Packaging

It is packed in a handy can. 90ml of the product is available for Rs.185, which is quite priceworthy. The plastic cap attached makes sure there are no spillage but it could have been a little tighter. Nonetheless the spray wouldn’t go off just like that. Hence it is negligible.

    Compactness

It is travel friendly and fits into my smallest vanity bag.

    Ease of usage.

As shown in the picture, it is easy to use. The spray is quite forceful and hence visually also we can see how it is applied on to the toilet seat.

    Fragrance

The floral fragrance will spare you from the odour which used to be there in many public toilets.

Directions for use ( As given on the can)

Shake everteen Toilet Seat Sanitizer spray can. Hold it upright & spray affected area at elbow-length distance (10 inches). Wait for about 5 seconds for sanitizing before using toilet seat. Avoid contact with skin.

Overall I am completely satisfied with the product.

  • The magic of Yoga-1 Entry-4 #HolisticWorkout

As you all know, I have always been tad bit obsessed about the benefits of Yoga. I myself have had the benefits when in helped to fight Fibromyalgia and ENT issues. But Yoga cannot be explained in a single post and hence we will have more posts of Yoga.

Today we have the illustaration of three Yogasanas. Sarvangasana, Halasana and Matsyasana.

    Benefits

Sarvangasana: Sarvangasana is also called shouklder stand pose. The pose has the basic benefits that many other workoud regimes provide. It helps in reducing stress, muscle strengthening. It tightens the leg and buttock muscles there by toning them. It is also beneficial to your shoulder and neck. Apart from these the pose has several endocronological benefits. Thyroid gland and prostrate glands are regulated with this Yogasana. If you are an insomniac, doing this pose will help you get your peaceful sleep. The digestive disorders can be cured to a great extend with this pose. Lastly, and most importantly, it is extremely helpful during menopause.

Halasana: Halasana is also called the plough pose. It is the extension of Sarvangasana and hence benefits would also be the extension of Sarvangasana like the effect on shouders and neck, menopause, stress and insomnia. But the extensive benefits are incredible. It makes you alert because of its effect in your sympathetic nervous system. Sympathetic nervous system helps you deal with dangerous situations by fight or flight decisions. The same is attained by the effect on adrenal gland that secret adrenaline. It is a detox mechanism for your excretory and disgestive systems. Hypertension is also alleviated with this pose. It also helps in improving your concentration and enhances memory power.

Matsyasana: Matsyasana is also called the fish pose. Trust me, this is one of the Yoga poses that has been most beneficial for my ENT issues and allergy but the scientific benefits are implausible. It is the ultimate ‘Destroyer of all Diseases’. Matsyasana is best followed by Sarvangasana and Halasana. Scientifically as well, the pose is believed to cure respiratory ailments, which explains how my allergies and resultant ENT issues were cured. It is best to reduce your anxiety. I have a personal experience when it helped my mother fight her hyperanxiety. It cures constipation. It has many endocrinological benefits by regulating adrenal, parathyroid, pineal and pituitary glands. It also improves posture and flexibility.

    3. Bicycle Crunches

It works on your abdominal muscles and helps in toning your abs. It is particularly effective on your rectus abdominis and obliques. It also improves strength as well.

    4. Planks

Here comes my favorite. Planks are basically strengthening exercices but since it also helps in raising your heart rate, it could be counted as a cardio as well. Additionally, we can improvise it to make it an out and out cardio. It helps in developing your posture and maintains overall balance. It improves the core strength and strengthens your arms, shoulders and biceps. Like highstepping is for lower body, planks are for upper body.

    5. Superman

Superman is a variation of viparitha shalabhasana in Yoga. The exercise is the best for your back problems. It strengthens the whole body muscles. Holding the pose works on your back and abdomen, arms and shoulders, chest, legs and thighs. Upper and lower backs are the best benefitted with this exercise.
